Does a 65W charger give your phone 65W?
The wattage on a charger describes its maximum output capability. It does not promise that every connected phone will charge at that power.
With compatible USB Power Delivery equipment, power is managed according to the device’s requirements. A compatible 65W USB-PD charger does not simply force 65W into a phone. The charger and device must support suitable power options. Start with your exact phone model’s charging requirements. USB-IF
Why matching wattage is not enough
In ChargerLAB’s Galaxy S25 Ultra compatibility test, using the original 3A USB-C cable, an AOHi 140W charger delivered approximately 40.51W, while an Apple 140W charger delivered approximately 22.93W. Their headline wattage matched, but measured power differed.
These were readings from that setup, not full-charge times or guaranteed results for other phones. ChargerLAB, 27 March 2025
Check PD, PPS and your phone’s requirements
USB Power Delivery provides a framework for compatible chargers and devices to agree on power. Programmable Power Supply, or PPS, enables adjustable voltage on compatible equipment. Samsung explains that some Galaxy fast-charging modes require PPS. PD support alone does not establish compatibility with a particular phone’s fastest mode. Samsung support
What does GaN add?
Gallium nitride is a semiconductor material used in power electronics. It enables designs with higher switching frequencies and greater power density, helping manufacturers build compact adapters. Texas Instruments
A smaller adapter can be useful for travel. But GaN alone does not prove faster phone charging, lower temperatures or better safety. Those depend on the complete product and supporting evidence. If your existing charger meets your needs, the GaN label alone is not a reason to replace it.
Include the cable in the cost
USB-C cables do not all have identical power capabilities. USB-IF’s certification programme uses 60W and 240W power markings for USB-C to USB-C cables. USB-IF
Also check the phone manufacturer’s cable requirements. Do not apply one model’s 3A or 5A requirement to every phone. Add the cost of a suitable cable when buying an adapter-only package.
Read the multi-port power split
A 65W multi-port charger does not necessarily supply 65W to every port simultaneously. Belkin specifies up to 65W with one USB-C port in use on its WCH013, or 45W + 20W with both in use. Actual draw depends on the connected devices. Belkin specifications

Choose around your devices
| Need | Check first |
|---|---|
| One phone | Its charging standard, power requirements and cable |
| Phone and laptop | USB-C charging support, required input and shared output |
| Three devices | Power allocation with all ports in use |
| Travel | Size, plug arrangement, adapters and local warranty |
| An existing suitable charger | What problem a replacement would solve |
Before buying, match the model number and check the seller, invoice, local warranty and cable bundle. A useful upgrade solves a charging need you actually have.
Research note: This guide draws on manufacturer information and an identified independent compatibility test. It is not a Greenway India hands-on review. Equivalent independent test coverage for all four Indian variants has not been established; no comparative safety, temperature or full-charge-time verdict is claimed.
